Resizing pictures for emailing
- You must do this ONE TIME on every computer you want to use:
Install Microsoft Image Resizer. Go to this Microsoft web page and click on ImageResizer.exe
- Click "Run" on the pop-up File Download window; follow instructions.
- Now anytime you are in My Pictures and right-click on a picture file, you get a menu list with "Resize Pictures" as a choice. Click on it:
- In pop-up window, choose a size (Large or Medium are good).
- Bingo! It leaves your original untouched, and makes a new file that is smaller and has the same name plus "(Large)" added to it.
- Email the resized picture; emails will go faster, and be easier for the recipient to receive.
Opening Microsoft Office 2007 documents (Powerpoint; Word; etc) in Office 2003 or Office XP
- Install the Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack by going to this Microsoft web site.
- Click "Download" button. Follow installation instructions.
- When finished, you should be able to open files that someone else created with Office 2007.
Convert a Word document to a PDF file — 2 methods
Method 1:
- Go to this website, which converts Word documents to PDF's for free: PDF Online
- Follow the Step 1, Step 2, Step 3; then click the "Convert to PDF" button.
- After a while, check your email for a new mail with the new PDF file attached.
- Open the email, right-click on the PDF file, and select "Save As...". Remember the folder you save it in.
Method 2:
- Update your Word software to Microsoft Word 2007
- Go to this Microsoft website, download and install the Microsoft Office 2007 Add-in.
- Then when you save documents, you can select PDF as a "Save As..." file type instead of doc file type.
Install the latest updates for Microsoft Office
Go to Microsoft Office Online, and click on "Check for Microsoft Updates". Follow the instructions.
Free Alternative to Microsoft Office (Word, Powerpoint, Excel, Publisher)
Go to OpenOffice.org and download their free open-source software.
Merging or Splitting PDF Files
Download and install this freeware program, PDFSAM. Download the Win32 Installer one. It is a simple program that allows you to merge multiple PDF documents into one document. Or you can split one page from a multi-page PDF file, and store it as a separate PDF file.
Free program to Rename files in bulk
Download and install this freeware program, Bulk Rename Utility. Most people need the "Bulk Rename Utility, Build .... for Windows XP/2003/Vista". It is a very powerful program for changing file names, but is for advanced users only.
